I was at Land Rover Fort Worth Friday and a salesman showed me a email he got about the new Freelanders. They will look like a smaller version of LR3 and I don't know about name change. Reminds me of how the H3 looks like a small H2, well, new Freelander looks like a small LR3. I don't know about engine options or low range though. That's just what I know is what they look like and they might come out this time next year.

I heard someone say that it's going to be called the LR2. Probably wrong, but, I bet it will be something along those lines.

Hopefully more easy on the fuel too. I had one for awhile when my Disco was in the shop and it used gas quicker than the Disco. What does everyone think of the influence Ford is having on Landrover ?

I was raised on Fords, so I like it. Freelanders only have a 16.9 gallon tank. What does a disco have?

24.5 or so. I get around 325 miles before I get really nervous.

Yeah, that's about the same here. I do alot of city driving. On the '02 Disco i used to have, I needed to have it taken in to have the valves cleaned and in the meantime was using a Freelander. It was fun, my son loved to stick his head out the sun-roof. That is until he had a bird dive-bomb him while driving under some trees.........hate to say it but it was funny.

meh....I never understood the Freelander, but I liked the small suv niche it had, I do not understand making it bigger..but, to each their own...I do not like Fords influence, mainly because its just not...british anymore...too 'mainstream' sell outs now--ford wants nothing but bottomline (they need to, for the US stock shareholders, gotta get that quarter estimate up!), whereas land rover wanted some profit no doubt, but they actually understood how to make a real off road vehicle...now they are all stripped of CDLs, manual tranny for the most part, and rely waaaay too much on electronics to let the 'soccer' moms not have to think about how to drive off road... that is full of generalizations, but still, ford-LR does not make me too happy with their design changes---also, i would take an lr3 anyday, but man, they just look like a big honda element, they took away the distinction that the old discovery line had--you could always find them in a parking lot, now, you have to LOOK for them...

WHAT I AM NOT A BIG FAN OF IS THE "NAFTA" THING. ALL OF THE DOMESTIC VEHICLES (DODGE, FORD, AND GM) HAVE FACTORIES IN MEXICO WHERE THEY GET THE PARTS MADE. OF COURSE, NOW THERE ARE "MASTER KEYS" THAT COME ACROSS THE BORDER IN THE HANDS OF AUTO-THIEVES. THEY'RE SWIPING THEM LIKE CRAZY. HOPEFULLY LANDROVER WILL GET THE LUCK AS HARLEY-DAVIDSON DID WHEN IT WENT OUT ON ITS OWN. THERE HAVE BEEN SOME PROGRESSIVE CHANGES IN THE CURRENT LINE.......GRANTED, SOME QUITE LONG OVERDUE. BUT I CAN UNDERSTAND WHERE THE "TRADITIONALISTS" ARE COMING FROM. I STILL CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THE DAY THAT THE DEFENDER GETS SOLD HERE AGAIN.
