So I was a the tire shop today to have a tire patched since the repairs i had done at a p/o repair shop's parking area were full of old metal scraps and lots of other wonderful things to find in your tires, and i asked the guy behind the counter to suggest some tires for me since ill be in the market sooner rather than later, he suggested 255, 165, 16 or 255, 160, 16 BFG All terrain T/A K/O how would this work for my 2000 disco II SD7? 115,000 miles daily driver and weekend mud toy?

BFG All Terrains are some of the best tires out there. Especially for a daily driver, low road noise and great tread life. I'd go for it. I have friends who have these tires on there trucks and swear by them.

I'm running 265/75/16s on my DII with a 2" OME lift.  I couldn't run that size without the lift, but the stock size can be upgraded.  I run BFG ATs and so far have zero complaints at all.  Great tire.  Mud?  Probably not so great.  But unless you go out of your way to find mud (which you probably shouldn't do) they're great.  I can air down on rocky trails and feel safe knowing the sidewalls are reinforced.  Nice on the pavement too.

So you mentioned you like to play a little, how much, this can make a big difference on your tire selection.
Do you have or plan on a lift, also can make a difference?

I know that Toyo makes an AT (Open Country) in a 255x65R16.  They're not ass agressive as the BFG, but have better road manners and tread life. They run about $140 a tire.

Also, General makes an AT tire that's more on the cheap side called the Grabber AT2.  They run about $100 a tire.  I don't know anyone that's had them, but they get decent reviews.

HTH.

My buddy had an F250 with Toyo all terrains and his tread life wasn't that great and when the tread wears there is little that can grab when off road. BFG, as the tread wears it still has great gripping ability. but thats just a first hand account....

I just bought some new tires and rims for my disco 2. the rims are black cragar 15x8 rims the bolt pattern is 5x4.75 with 4'' backspacing and these rims only cost 40 bucks and look amazing. The tires are Interco trxus sts AT tires theyre 29x10.50x15 and fit very good on my disco but if i was you i WOULD not go over a 29" tire they will rub when you turn. the trxus tires only cost $105 a piece and I have no idea why they are called AT tires they're really mud tires and are great in sand. The main reason i bought them was because they arent too loud on the street. I hear bad things about the BFG AT like "they cant go through hardly any mud" I've heard that alot but they last a really long time and will handle well on the road.  I dont know if the bfg AT would be a good choice for you since you do some decent mudding every weekend.

My friends use them for mudding and never have any problems. i promise. but if you want a really good mud tire i just did a photoshoot with a guy who had some sick **** Cypek Rims and Mickey Thompson tires. Those things handled phenomenal, not too loud and good tread life:

Steve: His F250 looks good.

My buddy had the Toyos on his Crew Cab Silverado and got about 50k out of them.  Everyone I know with BFGs gets around 40k normally.

I have the BFGs on my old Rodeo now and love them. It's the 2nd set and I have 40K on 'em. The tread depth is still excellent so 60K should be doable.
