2006 LR3, V6, everything stock

Well, we just got in from a long Christmas roadtrip. We live in Chicago, and went home to Texas for Christmas.

The total trip was 2991 miles, and we averaged 16.3 mpg at an average of 62 mph.

Heading south, we had a light load, but coming back we had and estimated 500 additional pounds.

My only gripe about my LR3 is that about half way there it developed a sqeak/rattle that I couldn't find. The racket is coming from the drivers side, but I have no specific idea where.

overall, i wish the mileage was better, but am not complaining.

Check in the sunroof area. Often times the sunscreen develops a hidden rattle on the right side of the vehicle.

I had one on my sunroof. Turns out a clip had come undone. Lightly and repeatedly tap the roof liner next to the sunroof area and see if you can duplicate the rattle. If you can, have them drop the liner and find the culprit!

your mpg might be down since you have the v6. in a vehicle that heavy it has to work hard. i drove from chicago to gaylord mich and we were getting 20mpg and we dont drive like your grandfather. check your mpg on your own don't just go buy the dash; mine is off sometimes even though i reset it at each fill up.

WOW 20 mpg sounds great....

I saw 17.5 mpg (V8) driving hard from New Mex to Cali... 900mi. Averaged 80-90mph, with a good bit of cruise control mixed in, so I thought that was pretty good, considering I wanted to do a real world test... but 20mpg!!! Did you do much passing and what kind of average speeds/distance???

Waiting for some around town driving figures for city miles.

we were going 75 on the way to chicago n back and 80 at times and yes we got 20 i check it myself as well as look at the computer each time and
that is no exageration in the fall so it wasnt hot or cold in oct in the cold this winter arountd town i am getting 14.5-15 and on shorter trips like 100miles we have been getting 17-18
and that is when the temp it 15 or colder

Are you saying you got 20 MPG for the whole trip, or occasionally cruising @ 75 and reseting the computer?

no i reset only when i get gas and check my mpg at each fill up but i did not reset the computer at all on that trip but i still figure it each time myself for each fill up both were 20
and it was all freeway except chicago. i have noticed the outside temp makes a difference so far but i have not had it for the summer yet. i got it in the fall. my winter mpg has been 15 around town and if i drive 100miles i am getting around 17 but it is cold up here last week it didnt get above 10 F

I took our 2007 LR3 up to SF (from LA) and back last month. I was pushing it hard up the interstate 5. The fuel milage was much better than I dreamed of. I was getting 19.5 up and back. Our car now has a total of 4600 miles. I was so shocked that I repeated the math twice and got the same result twice. And pushing it seems to make the milage even better. This truck does NOT like to be driven gently. Don't be afraid to push it and push it hard. I think when the RPM's get up there, there seems to be a sweet spot in terms of energy utilization and economy. Or at least that's my best guess... When I say pushing it hard, btw, I'm talking about well over 85 most of the time. I'd drop back when there was a cop or traffic. Otherwise I was holding a nice solid and quite comfortable 90.
