This 110 for sale says they are prone to engine fires? Is this true or just bull?

I've not heard of the Defender, or the 3.5 V8 ebing particularly prone to fires.  Any vehicle can be susceptaible to electrical fires and I guess that could be what they are talking about.

If it's been restored since, it wouldn't put me off.

Cheers

There have been instances where the oil cooler line ruptured and casued a fire. The defender lines are close to the exhaust. With proper maintenance, it's not an issue.

It's not just a matter of maintenance on the 4.0 litre V8  - but also poor design.  Unshielded rubber oil lines near and exhaust manifold is a bad idea, period.

Once they're changed for some aeroquip ones the problem disappears, permanently.

It's only NAS V8 models that were affected, diesels and other four pot engines are just fine with no modification.

Cheers,

Poor design = more maintenance.
