99 Disco II, 70K, well taken care of. Recently, from idle, trying to push the throttle pedal takes a lot of force to get it to 'dislodge' then it works fine until I pull up to a stop. Requires some force (not as much as first time when cold), but still enough to snap your head when you do it. When parked and under the hood, same amount of force is required when trying to manually operate the throttle. When cold, after you break it loose, sometimes it hangs at 2K-3K RPM's until a pump or two brings it back down. Is this a Throttle body that needs to be replaced? cleaned? If so, any pitfalls to avoid when replacing? process on cleaning? Thanks, Clay

Most likely the throttle cable, or cruise control cable is about to break. Unhook them both from the t/body then see how the t/body opens.

YEAH THAT SOUNDS LIKE THROTTLE BODY TO ME. TRY REMOVING YOUR INTAKE TUBE AND JUST TAKE A LOOK AT THE THROTTLE BODY. OBVIOUSLY WITH THE ENGINE TURNED OFF. LET US KNOW WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE. MAYBE POST A PICTURE IF THERES SOMETHING THAT LOOKS ODD.

it's actually a 01, not 99, don't know if that makes a difference. I thought the cable also, except when turning the throttle by hand on the throttle body, i get the same resistance, thus eliminating the cable from the equation. What is involved in serving a throttle body? I would prefer not to pay my local LR dealer a few hundred duckies if it is just spraying it down with some B12.

Probably just carbon buildup in the intake. Ever heard of a Seafoam treatment? That's what I used on my Blazer when I had the pedal-sticking problem, fixed it right up.

When you turned the thrpttle plate by had, were the cables still hooked up, unhook them and try it? Carbon build up will not cause it to stick as you are describing.

Do as suggested earlier....remove the tube that runs between your air cleaner and throttle body. 2 clips on air cleaner end....hose clamp holding it to throttle body. When you do this you will see a big "butterfly" in there. You will also see a bunch of brown crap on it and around the ID of this air inlet. spray carb cleaner up in there and use a lint free rag to wipe it off as best as you can. Important.....hold the butterfly open and clean the bottom edge of it as well. the butterfly is sticking in its home position due to this brown crap. Call the crap whatever you want...it's crap that shouldn't be there. ( just did mine..same problem) Done deal....Bob's your uncle. Doug

A fouled t/body won't stick to the extent he is describing, I think it is a cable still.
