I was just wondering if Land Rover offers free oil changes, and the like with a purchase of a new vehicle like BMW, Lexus, And VW does.

You know..free basic services for 3 years or 40,000 miles. Our BMW has it, our VW jetta had it...does LR?

And if not, what were the cost of basic maintence...oil changes, tire rotations etc..

We are in the process of ordering our new LR3 right now and we have been told that it does come with free service (excluding wear and tear items like brake pads, belts, etc) for 50K miles. We also tested the BMW X5 and Volvo XC90. Interestingly enough, Volvo is discontinuing this service with the 2006 model year. BMW sounds like they are continuing. Apparently it is getting too expensive. Land Rover is advertising it on the site, however, so my guess is that you are good to go!

Funny thing is they only cover oil changes every 7500 miles, which seems a bit extreme to me. And I thought brake pads and junk weren't covered? I could easily be mistaken though.

You are correct - it does exclude brakes, etc. 7500 miles between oil changes seems to be more standard in this segment. It was the same interval we saw for Volvo and BMW.

All 2006 Land Rovers include free services up to and including 45K. This covers all needed maintenance except, wipers, belts, brakes, and tires for what Land Rover considers ' normal driving'. Here is the catch. Normal driving is highway only driving, so if you drive more than a little stop and go, you will need to add interim oil changes at your expense. I think they call it arduous or something.

Unfortunately, this is an Industry wide practice. It leads to a lot of vehicles not being properly serviced per Manufacturer specifications. Read the owners manual carefully !
