V6 Auto 3 door Starting & Alarm probs

Hiya Guys

I am having intermittent starting problems with my 2001 V6 Freelander Auto and every time it go’s to a garage they say they have found the fault and repair but I still keep getting them and its becoming more frequent but still random.

It is intermittently not starting, when you turn the key it just clicks (like if it was still immobilised) with no turn over.

I have taken to flicking the key rapidly in the barrel on and off and it eventually turns over. (Sometimes 30 secs sometimes 10 mins)

I have had a new wiring loom
2 new batteries
Can sensor changed
And starter motor checked.

I have heard it might be something to do with the barrel or the key (which I think might be electronic) but don’t want to get this checked out because they will only replace and I’d probably still have the problem.

Has anyone else had anything similar to this and if so, please help!

The alarm is also playing up too, randomly keeps going off, so I have taken to locking it with the key. Is it possible to disable the alarm but still use the fob for the central locking?

Cheers peeps

hi, i have replaced two ignitions switches (the electrical\part)
on two seperate freelanders for a delay in starting the
key when turned to the start position would have a 1-2 second
delay in starting the freelander. is this a right hand driver freelander?
because most of the time i work with NAS left hand drive freelanders.
i say that because the RFID chip in the key and the immoblizer system
may not be the same as i am used to.

Thanks for that. It is a right hand drive as i'm in the UK.

Its not so much of a delay, it is refusing to turn over. Then out of the blue it will fire up?
