my 98 disco 2 is stuck in park. local mechanic said it was transmision switch. does it exist if so where is it? he wants $200 to fix

Sounds like a cheap fix to me at $200, an oil change here in the UK costs more..

Unless it was not registered until 1998, might still be a 97 model. Depends how vehicles are registered, here int he UK, if a dealer has one for a year or so and then registers it, you can end up with a vehicle that is a model year out of date.
