Hello everyone:

I have a 2000 Range Rover and have some concerns I would like your help with.

NAVIGATION RELATED…

1. Where can I source a replacement knob for the JAMES navigation system? Mine has become malleable and is deteriorating quickly. The dealer is playing clueless – which is very upsetting.

2. Has anyone ever been ‘locked out’ of their JAMES navigation system with only being able to put the monitor to standby (no other options being available) and the bottom center of the display reading TMD in red? This happens very intermittently. Dealer, again, has never seen this – and, of course, not able to ‘reproduce’ the symptoms.

RADIO RELATED…

3. When adjusting my radio I find it to be erratic sometimes. Using the knob to increase the volume or a setting, it decreases them sometimes, and vice versa. Why is this happening? How do I remedy this?

4. The backlighting for buttons 5 and 6 of my radio have went out. Easily replaced? If so, can someone provide a brief how-to?

Thank you very much for your help and insight, JD.

Sounds like your radio is having some issues!  I don't know where to start with the knob issues, but I can point you towards Roverville.  They service the radios for much cheaper than replacements cost (upwards of $1000 from the dealer).  Definitely check them out, they might have an easy fix for your knob questions.

As for the backlighting, thats a VERY common problem.  The dash is backlight by incandescent bulbs, which will burn out .  They're cheap though, and fairly easy to replace.  Here's a good write up on how to dismantle the radio and replace bulbs. HVAC and Radio Backlighting Repair

Hope this helps!

Thank you for your very prompt reply!

Actually, the radio and navigation systems are completely seperate units. My radio basically work, just that the volumne knob is unpredictable - at times. I mean I can turn the system on, rasie and lower the volume, but sometimes when doing so it does the opposite.

Also, thank you for the link to rangerovers.net. I've been to that page - it does not assist with radio backlighting though.

Thanks again for your help, JD.

I found this link on rangerovers.net, but it deals with the older radio and does not cover the lights for the switches, but the lcd (which probably doesnt matter anyway, b/c they are showing a different radio all together), but it seems that I'll need to remove the radio and must find the proper tools. http://www.rangerovers.net/repairdetails/radiolcd.html
