So, ChiefII, you replaced both your front and rear shafts? Why did you replace the rear shaft?

Shouldn't have replaced the rear, they don't need to be changed, just greased and once every 80K or more, replace the roto flex.

Looking into the entire front Driveshaft replacement for my 2004 SE with 80k. Having a hard time finding someone to do the rebuild in my neck of the woods (Alton Bay, NH). It appears no one wants to mess with my Rover? Have an e-mail into the Driveshaft Superstore, hopefully they can help me out. In the meantime, if anyone does know of anyplace in my vicinity willing to do the rebuild work, please feel free to let me know. Much appreciated!

Andrew, check out my original post from March 17 - "Also went with the roto-flex kit and a new Neapco 1-0005 u-joint in the rear.  I had to enlist the help of a local driveshaft/performance shop to pull out and press in the roto-flex pilot bushing."

Sorry for the confusion.  I was refering to a (like)new driveshaft in the rear.  Full roto-flex kit and ujoint.  Be Safe, Mark V.

Andrew, I called coast driveline and asked them to estimate the labor on what you need done. After some discussion they told me labor shouldn't cost more that $100 bucks. The reason they want you to bring in the shaft and are hesitant to quote a price is because they want to make sure they have the equipment (flange attachments) to do the job right. After looking at coast driveline's website and talking to them I can't imagine them not being able to do it. Seems to be an awesome shop. One other thing, they will not install any "cheaper" parts such as Neapco or Precision so you should probably just take them the numbers for your joints and centering kit and let them source and supply them. They'll use Spicer parts if available for your application.  On the other hand, for another $100-150 bucks you can get the Tom Woods shaft. These are your choices, just depends on how much money you want to spend.

Luv2Disco, thanks again for calling the shop. Who did you talk to at Coast Driveline--do you recall? I'm still trying to decide whether to buy the Tom Wood's or try to get Coast to rebuild my shaft.

I am looking at replacing the u-joints in the front-drive shaft of my 03 disco.I have a drive line shop that will do the work. The shop needs the shaft for three days to rebuild it. Can i drive the vehicle without a front drive-shaft?

Thanks

Egreen

No, not if you have the original transfer case in it. You can't lock the TC on that year.

Andrew, I don't remember his name but he remembered someone had called about a Land Rover so it was probably the same guy you had talked to earlier.
