Wiring the rear speakers to aftermarket stereo - 3/16/2008 4:33:29 PM    Hare   Posts: 69 Joined: 1/7/2008 Status: offline I recently got my pioneer stereo to work in my 97 Disco SD (it had already been altered for a jvc stereo when I bought it) and was wondering if there was a way to wire the rear 6.5 mid-subs in the back door to a RCA pre-out from my receiver?  I was wondering if I could splice an RCA male to the speakers' factory wiring and plug it into the pioneer pre-out or are there wattage issues to deal with?  Since the main stereo amp is by-passed to run the pioneer, has the subs' amp also been by-passed?  I could replace the 6.5 speakers and run an aftermarket amp ( have both in the closet) but if I could just plug the current subs into the deck things would be simpler until I'm motivated to do a full upgrade.  Just redid my wife's speakers in her sunfire so I'm a little spliced out at the moment.  I've looked at the Rave CD but couldn't tell if this would work. I replaced my speaker with new one's and glued the amp to the back (just how it is mounted) and it still sounded like crap. If you don't have jump seats in the back, I would suggest you run RCA's to an aftermarket amp and build a box for an 8" to go in the cargo box in the back. Either way, if you have the atermarket amp, I would use it. Don't think the factory amp will push out. The line signal was too high for my aftermarket amp and I had to use a line convertertor step it back down. RE: Wiring the rear speakers to aftermarket stereo - 3/17/2008 10:34:22 AM    Hare   Posts: 69 Joined: 1/7/2008 Status: offline Okdiscoguy, did you build a custom box in one of the side storage panels or just use a regular enclosure with an 8"?  Which brand sub did you go with?  I have been thinking that a shallow mount 8" would fit there just fine then drop two 6.5 infinity kappa two-way speakers (which are sitting in the closet) and run both from a nice 4 channel tube driver hybrid amp (also in the closet).  It's been so long since I've wired an amp I'll have to do some e-search.  The amp I'm thinking of is 4x70w but I can't even remember if it can run 2x70x + 1x140w at 4 ohms.  Guess I'll find out if I can build a cheap box. Also, I've got some kicker tweeters I'm thinking about using to replace the A-pillar ones above the dash but don't know where to stow the cross-overs.  They're about 3" long rectangles with 1.5-2" width and depth.  What I'm trying to do is use up all the spare speaker stuff I have left over from my audiophile days without spending too much on the install.  Too bad I don't have any nice 4" sets around, lol. _____________________________ Hare 97 Disco SD 114k front bumper slightly modified (bent) (in reply to okdiscoguy) Post #: 6

I can pull it out if I need the room, but I was considering making 2 boxes for 8's that fit under the seats when they are down. It sounds good enough for me now. Better than my Caddy with a Bose system.... I replaced all of my 4" with some lighning audio's from wal-mart. RE: Wiring the rear speakers to aftermarket stereo - 3/17/2008 12:09:48 PM    Hare   Posts: 69 Joined: 1/7/2008 Status: offline Okdiscoguy,  What watts are you running to the speakers and sub?  Also, pulled out the receiver and had forgotten how much of a rat's nest it was back there.  As I said before, a prior owner had installed a jvc deck and the wires are such a mess I can't even find the input wires for the rear speakers.  Guess I'll start shopping for an amp kit and a sub.  Anyone found the easiest way to run the amp wires to the rear, i.e. which panels/carpet/step-plates to go under? I'll check out those wal-mart mids but my receiver, I believe is 40w RMS, so I'm warying of buying speakers that it would blow.  I'm not sure about the deck's power, the player and all the specs I could find out online only say 40Wx4 (no mention of RMS or peak). _____________________________ Hare 97 Disco SD 114k front bumper slightly modified (bent) (in reply to okdiscoguy) Post #: 8
