I have a 2003 Discovery that has a lot of valve noise. It developed an intermittent ticking noise in the last month, so based on a post on this site I flushed the motor and changed to synthetic oil. The ticking stopped for about 300 miles and the engine quieted down, but now the ticking is back.

Vehicle has 80,000 miles on it; it has a January 2003 production date.  I spoke with the dealer and he said it is normal to have some valve noise at 80,000. I have no codes showing, the oil light has never come on, and the truck runs smooth at idle and during acceleration.  Is this normal for a Discovery or is this an indication of a bigger problem? Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Egreen

You must have spoke with a salesman or something, that's not normal. You're oil level is still good right? It sounds like you might want to drop your oil pan and clean the pick-up tube and the pan while you're at it. The flush and the synthetic oil will both loosen up a lot of stuff that can clog things up.
