Don't believe all you read, some Rover owners would make great wives the way they whine.
The 04 is, by far, the best of the Disco line, I however are still driving my 99 and wouldn't/won't part with it.
If you are a little mechanical, don't mind getting your hands dirty and know where to buy parts, you will be in great shape. Wait till you see how an 04 performs off road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just remember, the people that have no problems with their Rovers are too busy using them and loving it to write a review.  And if you're reading consumer reports...well...I wouldn't trust my grandmother or my neighbor's wife to pick a car for me...and who do you think is writing to consumer reports??

Get what you want, but make sure you can check service records!  Any vehicle will have problems if it was not properly cared for!

thanks for the info. what is the difference between say an 02,03 discovery and a 04 I know that the 02,03 did not come with a center diff. does that make a big difference when your off roading.

I have a 97 Disco and I have 4 wheeled with and without the CDL locked to check it out.  The CDL makes a big difference in offroad performance.  I would go with the 04 as that has the bigger, stronger engine and CDL while the 03 only has the bigger engine.  The 02 has the older, smaller engine plus no CDL.  Also the 04 quality is probably better that the other 2 model years.  If you really want an increase in offroad traction and ability then put in a rear ARB air locker.  Makes another big difference.  Easy to turn off or on depending if you are on the highway or doing serious offroading.
