im having issues with my gauge.I drive the car for like 30 mins and i notice the gauge moving over towards the red and slowly back to the normal point.the car doesn't seem to be over heating.i replaced the expansion tank, radiator and thermostat.I really think its a false reading from the coolant temp gauge.ANY SUGGESTIONS IF I SHOULD REPLACE THE COOLANT TEMP GAUGE? 2003 RANGE ROVER

You might want to be a bit more patient...6 minutes and you bump it up?

Probably a bad coolant temp sender..not the gauge.  How are you sure it's not overheating?

Have you bled the system well, are your electric fans working?

ITS not boiling over and no external leaks.I did notice the upper hose really hot and the lower hose really not hot at all. What you think?

If one of the hoses is not hot at operating temp, then you've got a clog or an air bubble.   It sounds like you've got a coolant issue, and your guage is fine.

If you've properly bled the air from the system..then you've got a clog somewhere.  A flush might get it out.  Also which hoses were you talking about, the upper and lower radiator hoses?  If so, did you also check the heater core hoses at the firewall?  Both should be hot as well (too hot to hold on to, but able to be touched for a quick second)

it was flushed and upper hose replaced.they did notice alot of corrusion around the thermostat when they removed it.tHE LOWER hose was not so hot after running for awhile.the coolant temp sensor, what exactly does it do?i really feel that the issue.the car doesnt seem to really be over heating or boiling over.thats why i think its a sensor or something.

It very well may be a sensor or sender, but with these engines it is much more likely that it is actually overheating due to a coolant issue (symptom = cool lower hose) than a failed sensor on a 2003.
