Hi guys. Just now my 'SERVICE ENGINE' light came on, and it stays on. I was on a ramp to the HW... I drove for maybe 3 KM and got to work - Parked in the garage I turned her off, and then back on, but the light is still on. I did a quick check under the hood and there are no leaks - the temp is normal. There is a flickering sound like ... like there was a leak through the engine head gasket... but I would see oil if that was the case... I think. Any ideas before I take it to my mechanic? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. ---------------------- 98 D1 134,000 KM I just recently started using Premium Gas (2 weeks ago) Have had the car for just over a month.

Take it to AutoZone or someplace like that and they will read the codes for you for free. Post the codes and we can tell you what's going on.

Get the codes read and get back to us with the exact four digit numbers.

A friend of mine had a reader and it came back with no codes. After checking several times, I searched on the light itself, and it appears that there are 2 totally different ligths. There is the SERVICE ENGINE (The one I got) and the CHECK ENGINE lights. The first one appears to be a service check reminder - emissions maybe? - set to trigger at 135,000 KM (around 85k miles). The CHECK ENGINE would've been a whole different ball game. :) I think this info is correct, but if I'm mistaken, please let me know. Thanks for the responses.

Yes, you are right, the light that you have on is a service maintance light that comes on about every 80,000 miles that can be reset after the service is performed.
