Hi DJones.
You still did not answer my question. When the guage hits the red and you switch the ignition off and immediatly on again, does it read normal? If it does,we all should know that no engine can cool down from overheat to normal in ten seconds.Your problem is then electrical.
Regards
Marius.

engine coolant temperature SENDER.  it's cheap..do it.

And probably the ECT sensor itself while youre at it..cheap as well.

first of all, there is no ect sender on this engine, the ect is a duel sensor, however you do have a secondary sensor, your radiator outlet temp. i have seen a few problems with the wiring to this sensor getting shorted out on the a/c lines off the comp and causing all kind of erratic readings. generally it will throw a few fault codes. do you have any? but if youre not actually overheating, and it doesnt sound like you are, check the wiring at the lower right hand side of the engine and make sure its in tact and secured.

I had a similar problem on ny 2000 rr.  It turned out to be a relay in the engine compartment fuse box (fan wasn't cutting on)  $10 fix :)  Worth checking.  The yellow relay was really brown.

they did a chemical test and it failed.combustion gases in the system.they also did a laser check and the temp seems to be really high.therfore,it a cooling issue and not a sensor.I wish it was though.
