Hey all, I have a 97 Disco and A strange thing happened the other day, after stopping at a light I attempted to continue driving and the car wouldn't move, the engine just revved as if in neutral, then started making some sounds like it was going to stall so I turned it off, had it towed home. Now after messing with it a bit it's become apparent that If I start it in neutral and have the parking brake engaged, the noises stop, I can put it in gear, and the car can actually drive, but still slips. As soon as I take the brake off I feel like something's about to break; But if the Differential lock is engaged, the disco can drive slowly without any of the above problems. Any Ideas on what seems to me to be a very strange problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

im guessing something is broken in the rear axle like the spider gears, ring and pinion, or axle shafts.

I would go a step further, I believe you may have an internal t/case issue.
If you put the tranny in gear, you get noise, but do you get all your normal pulling power?
Have some start your truck, put it in drive and look under your truck, to see if your rear drive shaft is turning as you sit there.
What happens if you shift to High Lock, do you still have the same noise?
