I'm fairly positive the rear main seal is a rather major repair..Probably requires the engine to be pulled/tranny dropped to get at the seal....I would imagine it's a case of not too expensive of a part, but the labor to get it kills ya...

Feel free to correct me...I had the rear main seal leaking on my old '87 pontiac, and this is what I recall from looking into that repair!

Hi,

Someone on another forum, told me to check my crankcase vent to make sure it isn't clogged or blocked because if it is, it can cause the engine to push oil out the rear main seal.

He had this problem once.

Is it the same thing than the crankcase breather filter http://www.classicsagogo.co.uk/acatalog/technical_vehicle_guides.html

As I'm not a mechanic at all, is it easy to clean it and first of all where is it located (some details would be greatly appreciated)  ?

Thanks again for your help.

$1200.

You need to go dergrease your engine top and bottom then power scrub it. When done, crawl under it a couple of times a day and see where the fresh oil is coming from.
Is it dripping on the ground, if so where?

Wow...oil on the bumper but no spot...that's impressive

Mike are you thinking the IMG was poorly done (if the shop did it) and that's the loss of oil? Are you thinking it's coming out the exhaust and getting on bumper/tailgate that way?

I am thinking it is leaking in a bad way and probably wasn't really replaced.

Hi,

If this is the intake manifold gasket, should I have oil leak on the floor, or is it only when I'm driving ?

Thanks,

Pat3d

Hello,

2 days ago, I called the mechanic who changed my intake and head gaskets, and he told me that I had a remaining leak form the rear main seal to take care of.

I'm gonna go for that and make it repair. I hope it will fix my big leak problem.

He told me also that he has cleaned the crankcase breather filter, and he didn't notice any problem with the valves stem seals either.

Thanks,

Pat3d
