A diesel D-110 is what I'm ordering as soon as LR sends them
to the U.S..

Landzu... if you don't need the extra row of seats in the back, then seriously consider a Defender 90 over a 110... they're more capable off road with better ramp, breakover and departure angles and the load bay in a 90 is slightly larger than the load bay in a 110 station wagon (but not the commercial - for obvious reasons).  They also turn better... a 110 has approximately the same turning circle as the QE2 or USS Nimitz.

The reason for the small fuel tank is probably our geography and the (ever rising) cost of fuel in the UK... at a little less than 900 miles long and 350 miles wide and never being more than about 80 miles from the sea wherever you are an expedition size tank is a bit pointless.  Likewise re cost of fuel, filling a 30 gallon tank, enough to get you around 500 miles if you were careful, over here that would cost you around £130... or $260! Most people just baulk at the idea of spending that much cash on fuel just to fill it up in one go.
