unstable -> RE: Header wrap for exhaust manifolds? (5/13/2008 8:34:10 AM)

I don't think that header wrap would be as effective on exhaust manifolds as it is on headers. Headers are generally fabricated out of metal tubing. In contrast, exhaust manifolds are made from castings. I think the thicker castings, while constricting exhaust flow to some extent, actually insulate better than the headers by far. I don't think you'd actually hurt anything by wrapping your exhaust manifolds. It may lower under-hood temperatures a little but I would predict it only having a marginal impact on the engine temperature itself. In the hot-rod sector, I don't see many people using header-wrap. It has a tendency of trapping water and rotting off of the pipes. Almost more of a pain in the butt than it is worth.
