Adding an amplifier to 96 RR

72chevy -> Adding an amplifier to 96 RR (5/5/2008 3:33:13 PM)

What is the best way to get the signal for inputting into an aftermarket amplifier that will go to a box with two tens?  If the stock head unit had RCA outputs I'd be set, but that would be too easy.

Thanks

why not upgrade the head unit?

I've gone back and forth on that question, but I like the idea of keeping everything clean and stock with the addition of higher quality speakers and harder hitting bass.  I feel I should take advantage of having one of the rare stock Rover radios that's actually working.  I guess I could add a new Alpine when the stocker does eventually bomb.  Right now, I figure adding an amp and subs would be the quickest, easiest and least expensive bang for the buck.

I would call crutchfield.com or go to a local shop and find out what amps can except speaker wire instead of RCA, then use the rear speaker output for your subs, but then you have the problem of powering all of your door speakers. You can't splice RCA and running more then one speaker off of the same wire will produce bad sound quailty. If you really wana stay stock use the box in the rear cargo door, and the amp in it and get these http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Group/ProductMenu.aspx?g=520&tp=111&nvpair=FFSize%7c%5brank1%5d6-1%2f2%22 or just save some cash and upgrade the head unit. it was the first thing did in my 96 disco, but i like the idea of not haveing a big box in my cargo area, so i might use that last sugestion or remove one of the floding jump seats for a place for a box. good luck tell me how it goes.
