No bearings?

brennera -> No bearings? (5/8/2008 9:05:44 PM)

I was about to embark on the front breaks this weekend. Wil replace the rotors and pads, and was thinking time to get in there and repack bearings.....now, from what I think i have understood is there are none. Just hubs that eventually need replaced. Can I get a confimration on this. Its a 01 DISCO2.

Also...RAVE is kind of lacking on the calipers...any good site for details on replacing pads?

Much thanks in advance for the help...Yall are awesome. I just found the forum a couple weeks ago and feel much more confident about tackling some of the maintenance.

All wheels have bearings. All. Whether they are user servicable just depends.

On all D2's a hub with internal bearings and seals is used which can not be serviced.
As for the brake job, make sure you run around 3 pints of a good DOT 4 or synthetic brake fluid, thru the system afterwards and use lots of sound deadening material on the backs of the brake pads.

Thanks. (I guess I should have said serviceable bearings) I guess that makes the job easier, although I wonder how long they will last without being repacked.

They seem to hold up pretty well.

Replaced the rotors with the proline drilled/slotted and put in new green pads. Was a snap (except for the one socket behind the brakeline on each side). Brakes are super quiet, and feel great. I still need to bleed the lines at some point. Thanks all for the suggestions and help. Saved me a couple hundred bucks and made a fun project!

Do your self a favor, buy at least 3 pints of Vavolines synthetic brake fluid, it will habdle the extra heat generated by your new rotors.
Make sure you bleed out all the old fluid.
