Ok guys ... I am working on the next part in my slow quest to rebuild my DII one $300 part at a time

In any case, I have a 2000 DII that has a considerable whuuuu whuuu whuuu (yea I know, what exactly is that sound) sound that seems to come from right front while driving. It becomes audible about 20mph and gradually increases in intensity as you accelerate. While at speed, if you turn left, it gets a tad worse. There was some vibration in the wheel as well, but that seems to have stopped with the new tires .....

I have replaced front drive shaft already, so its not that, new tires, new brakes (pads and rotors) .... so the only thing I am thinking is perhaps I have a bad hub.

I have done some testing, ie there does not appear to be any play in the wheel indicating a worn hub, I have jacked the wheel up and let it spin in gear and have considerably more noise on the right than the left side, but again, nothing apparent as to what the problem might be.

So any thoughts? Hub or maybe axle? Any better way to test for sure?

If you let it go too long it will be both. Right now, it sounds like your hub is about to go, replace it before it does more damage.

I know the D1 and D2 hubs are different. The D1's having tapered greaseable bearings, while the D2's have sealed non-greaseable bearings. Instead of replacing the entire hub assembly, can't the bearing be press out the hub? Might be a cheaper alternative instead of replaceing the entire hub. Most bearings will have a number on them. Take that number to a bearing supply company and see if they can cross reference the number.

The hubs ar pretty light, pressing on them can distort them and then you will have ABS issues do to a bad signal.
