Just wondering what (hand) tools would be best for this project? The bumper seems to be pushed in about an inch--more or less--and a bit farther into body on the right-hand side. I'll try and post some pics soon but I was wondering if ball and fender hammers could be used reshape it? I don't care if it looks OEM I just want it pulled out to the previous length. Any ideas?

Good luck trying to do this with hand tools. Years ago when I crashed my Ford Pickup, my dad had a friend who owned a wrecker. He hooked my bumper up to the wrecker and pulled it out that way by adjusting the hook slightly to get it where he thought it should be.

Try this, I've done it a bunch of times with trucks over the years: Part in front of a tree so the pushed in area of the bumper is about 6-8 ft in front of vehicle. Get a few lengths of chain and a come-along. I have 2 flat hooks I put on a length of chain about 2ft long. Each hook is about 1 1/2" wide so it won't mar or bend the bumper ...and each hook goes on the top/bottom of the bumper on the outside edge (where it's pushed back). The wide hooks will prevent it from distorting the bumper, but you could wrap the chain completely around the bumper and put a bloc of wood on the back so it doesn't mar up the bumper. Ok, hook the come-along up to the chain and to the tree (with another length of chain). Pull the come-along until the bumper becomes straight. Hope that makes sense.

Hi, try this, it worked for me a few years back. Take off the plastic endcap, then insert a 5-6 ft length of scafold tube into the bumper end, with all that leverage you can bend it quite easily and precisely to where it should be. Good luck.........John

MarkG, does the lb matter on the come-along? What I mean is, should I get one that can pull 8000lb or a 1200lb one that says its for bodywork? jublu, that seems like a great idea, but I have no clue where to get scaffold tubing.

Sorry Hare, thats what we call it over here. Any kind of steel tubing around 2" dia. will do or even a fence post if it will fit. The important thing is the length, which if around 5 ft will give you massive leverage and allow you to just tweak the bumper around. I dont know your situation but there must be something like that around...........John

It doesn't take much to pull out the bumper. I'm not sure what lb come-along I've got, it's not a really big one. Ask around, you're sure to find someone who has one. Yeah, a long pipe might also work, But put a piece of steel or block of wood on the outside edge to distribute the weight so it doesn't distort the very outside end of the bumper. Good luck
