I'm not a big offroader, but I'd like to add a winch for those times when I do head off the beaten path.

There are plenty of electric options, but I'm leaning toward hyrdraulic winches.  For one, they are cheaper and lighter.   I also like that it runs cool and and I don't have to worry about a dead battery.  Yes, I know that if your truck won't start they won't work.  They also work a lot slower.

My main concern, though, is how it will affect the power steering system.  Are there any  consequences with having a hydraulic winch on a Disco?

Also, I'm trying to install this in a hidden tray beneath the bumper.  Is it possible to relocate any solenoids ala Urban Panzer's install?

Thanks.

Nevermind.  It appears as though the MM winch has levers in lieu of a remote.  Since the winch would be hidden, there's no easy way to access them.

You need to be looking at an electric winch, what happens if you are under water and or you can't start your engine?????????????
Buy a mid range Warn Winch like a 9000# rated and get down the trail.

A good come-a-long from your local Tractor Supply Company will do what you are looking to do.
Throw it in the back of the trk when you hit the trails, put it in your garage when you get home.
