megnacor plug wires + my truck = fail

no improvement.  Another guy on another forum suggested stickie valves.

any suggestions on the quickest way to do a valve job?  I have done them on VW beetles, but, this isn''t a 1600 cc engine and the haynes I have is the wrong one (thanks alot fine print) so I am shooting in the dark, or at least really really dark blue.

Have to get a head gasket kit and send them off to a machine shop. Should be under $100 per side. Check for bent valves ( like I said earlier) =)... A friend of mine just went through this last year. It showed up after a head gasket change. The shop missed it. Same problems, though. Gets warm and likes to miss and dump mis-fire codes. Cold and sometimes warm, ran like a top.... Every so often, it would just take a dump..

Sounds like you have done everything except pull the heads...Looks like it is time to. Make sure and get a good head gasket kit like the one from Atlantic British, and new head bolts...

I have the gaskets.  I also figgure I need new valve cover bolts and head bolts as well, I think they are strech instead of torque.  yay.  Should I also get the ''carbon break'' type of valve stems while I am at it?

Not sure what year they started putting the carbon cutters on. You may have them (98 right?) but, yes, I would make sure they have them, or you may be facing this again in the future....

YOu can re-use the valve cover bolts, but no the heads.. They are stretch bolts.
