personally im partial to the 05. bmw engine, the ride and comfort of the new body style (03 to current are about the same) and an actual navigation system

I love my 96 5.6 P38 - it's still in great shape with 110k on it and used for little more now than our 16 year old tooling around town.  However, the money spent on it has been immense - computers, EAS, etc.  Pretty much everything replaced, sometimes more than once - over the years.  We have an 01 Disco that is a bucket of bolts - would never do that again - the 06 Sport, which is fun but cramped - and 06 and 08 4.4's.  Frankly, there's no comparison in ride, comfort, noise level, etc. - in my opinion, between the P38 and the new one's.  I still love the look of the P, but wouldn't go back.  The 4.4 is like driving your living room - fast and comfortable.  Of course, a Rover with a warranty is always a blessing...

You have your years wrong.  My 04 RR has a 4.4 BMW powerplant and also did the 05's.

Not taking anything from the Jag engines, but the BMW 4.4 is as just about as good as it gets.

I'd have to agree with the fact that the 05 is by far the best Rover to date... The BMW engine, the luxury of the new design and ride comfort, and the charm of the Brits.

I have been working on rovers since 94.The p38 range is by far the most reliable, save the terrible eas system! Bmw redisigned the range rover in 03. It continues to present day except in 06 when the engine and associated management systems changed.
