Just thought i would get everyones opinion So do you think the oil crisis in the U.S is based on simple supply and demand priniciples, speculation in the futures market, the value of the dollar or some other reason and what should the U.S be doing the solve the problem?

All of the above, the dollar stinks, crude is running out and the futures market is not helping.

Yes all of that is true, and what we should be doing is what we should have done a long time ago... That''s burn something else that we have plenty of... I''ve been doing some searches and found that some people are doing hydrogen conversions to their vehicles and they are apparently working. I was talking to a new client of mine just last week who is working on securing a franchise in our area to get these things installed. The oil companies and our government are sitting on fuel cell technology saying that hydrogen bottle stations don''t exist yet, but these conversions don''t rely on prefilled bottles - they generate hydrogen from water you pour into them... Interesting... What do you think?

That is interesting as i have read about that and would like to see it first hand. My biggest argument regarding the oil crisis is this. The average price per barrell last year was 72 dollars. Now we are hanging around 140. For the people saying it has to do with supply and demand its hard to beleive demand as doubled within a year. There is enough oil off the gulf alone to last us 35 years however it is not accessible. Although i do beleive we should be looking for technology we should use what we have in the mean time. By doing that we would create more jobs for americans which in return would stimulate our economy in every way and led us to new technology even faster, all while lowering prices at the pump. The problem is saudi arabia wants to keep their oil in the ground because its more profitbale for them to do so. When you have an asset that controls a market you hold on to it to drive the price up even more. i beleive its a bubble just like the housing market that will eventually have its downfall but no telling as to when that will happen. I would love to run my old car on water and if it becomes popular and i see it first hand i would for sure try it.

Gas prices in UK are going crazy, and not only the gas prices.. For the past week, after the press release regarding "sooner or later price increasement", people were going crazy with filling up. The lines at all the gas stations were so long, you needed to wait 20-30 minutes in the line to tank. Prices didn''t increased so dramatically yet, but people are taking it very serious.

I agree that prices have been going too far, but then I am more used to it as I moved from the UK a year ago. At the time of writing it is $2.64 a litre for diesel and $2.36 a litre for petrol. I think that works out at $8.93 a gallon for regular gas. Hence why all the Disco II''s are TDi''s there! In the UK we all just took it as part of life paying so much, and most of us drive 4 cylinders and generally less than 2 litre engines.
