Newbie, here. Just went to Autozone to have my check engine light diagnosed and the following codes came up: PO171, PO174, PO733 and PO734. After perusing the forum I saw that it could be fuel filter and/or mass air flow sensor related. I guess I would like some advice on what steps I should take to aleviate these issues (starting with the cheapest options, obviously). A couple of other questions: I found the mass air flow sensor on roverparts.com for $217.95. Is this a decent price? If not, any suggestions on where else I should look. And, for the fuel filter, Autozone is asking for the following engine type: 8 Cylinders 2 4.0L MFI (found in 66% of 2001 Land Rover Discovery II) 8 Cylinders 5 4.0L MFI (found in 34% of 2001 Land Rover Discovery II) How do I find out which engine I have? Thanks in advance, Steve

D2''s don''t have fuel filters. Call Tony at Cerrones, 650-365-4145. I believe his prices are in the $180 range.

Thanks, Mike (I told you I was a Newbie). So I take it you believe it''s the Mass Air Flow Sensor? Could this be causing the 733/734 codes, too?

All part of the fault code package when the MAF fails.

Check all the hoses on the engine for vacuum leaks, make sure all the connections are tight. That''s the cheapest place to start.

Sorry, I should have elaborated. I had all of these codes on my truck. I had these codes over the course of a few months. First one tranny code every once in a while, then the lean codes and then all four codes everytime it was driven. A new MAF did not fix it. I tightened one of the hoses that threads into the throttle body plenum and I never got a code again. I''m guessing the connection was slowly loosening up over time. It makes sense: bad MAF = unmetered air getting in and a vacuum leak = unmetered air getting in and making it run too lean.
