I recently aquired a 97 Disco (Freebie) and was wondering if there are any basic engine mods I can do that will enhance power such as air filter, exhaust, etc....

I'm mainly familiar with American cars such as Fords and Chevys but I know SQUAT about Land Rovers.  It has a V8 so I'm assuming I can do the basic stuf like a K&N filter and free flowing mufflers and the like.  Any suggestions? Brands?

Also, any info on suspension lifts are welcome.  Ideally, I'd like to lift it enough to put 33" tires on there.

There are several ways to improve performance, though it depends what you want to improve.

One is to fit a larger intercooler, Allard in the uk are a good starting point for that, also getting a new chip if yours has one fitted. K&N filters are also a good start as you know.

With regard to lift, Bilston shocks seem to be a good place to start.

Unless I'm missing something major, my Discovery doesn't have a turbo or supercharger so it shouldn't have an intercooler.?

I think I'll just start with free flowing mufflers and a K&N Filter for starters.

Here is a website for you to have a look at, http://www.scorpionracing.co.uk/OFFROAD/offroad.html

They cover a range of modifications that you can either try and get from them or maybe find more local.

Hope it is of help.

i wouldn't run the k&n ,hotwire mass airs don't like sucking oil fumes.i would start with a borla or nrp exhaust & high flow cats.superchip sells a chip but its $500.add magnacore wires.you can even look for a 4.6 from a 96-02 range rover when your 4.0 gets tired

for your lift i would go to http://www.expeditionexchange.com/index.htm  run ome 764 springs in the front & 762's in the rear w/ 1" spacers& EE backing plates for shocks run ome n73's in the front & n76's in the rear, you will have to fab new lower mounts or use n44's & EE shock mounts.you may get some driveline vibrations too, some do some don't, a dual card. front shaft will usually fix that.i would replace the roto-flex rear driveshaft with a u-joint one from a discoII or one of the kits.http://www.rovertym.com/ also sells 3" springs and offsett arms.and with 33's you will need gears the only place for them is http://www.greatbasinrovers.com/
