After reading a lot of post about the DII and the need to have the shaft rebuilt, I was wondering if this is something I need to worry about with my 97 DI. So far it has been a great vehicle around town but I want it just as reliable when it''s time to go off-road. And unlike far too many LR''s in the Denver area, mine will see off-road.

Nope, not a problem on a DI. Just grease the u-joints every oil change and you will be fine.

Thanks Spike. Could I get your opinion? Did I make a good choice in getting a 97 DI as my first Rover?

LOL. Everybody on here knows that I think DI''s are WAY better than DII''s. I also have a ''97, it now has 174k on the smile o''meter and I am still lovin'' it. You made the right choice. Send me a e-mail and we can talk more if you want.

I was considering selling my 97 to a buddy and buying a 2002 D2 until I read that I would have spend another $150 minimum just to get the CDL which mine came with for no extra cost. Didn''t seem to make sense to me.
