Congratulations on moving toward the LR world! The different letters depend on what extras the truck has. As far as I aware there are 3 types of disco II, the SD (basic model with synthetic leather seats), SE (luxury model with leather seats) and the SE7 which is the same as the SE but with a couple of extra seats in the boot (trunk for those on the western side of the pond). These are the very basic explanations - I am sure they are many on the forum that can fully detail the exact differences. It is worth doing a search before you buy on all of the things you should look for. I have an 02 SE and have had no problems so far...

http://www.robisonservice.com/servicedep/rover_advice1.asp A decent read to help educate yourself. XX7 means seven passenger, other than that its all about the goodies. And the price. The more goodies the more the price. LR is different from other car manufactures. That make all of their trks the same, same engine, transmission, axles, transfer case etc, just different trim levels. HSE is top of the line, it has crome.
