I have an '01 Discovery II with 40,000 miles. It's been running rough since June of this year. They pulled the codes replaced the injectors which didn't really seem to help. The 3 light warning signal and light came on later in the summer and they were able to fix that problem. But the Service Engine light keeps coming back.

They pulled the codes again but say they can't quite figure out exactly what the problem is - could be the spark plug wires or could be something to do with fuel .......... I admit; at this point they lost me in their list of possible scenarios, and I did the chick thing and said "I'm bringing it back and I need you to figure it out"

Service Engine light on again. The car started knocking only on acceleration last Wednesday. It now knocks all the time and seems to be losing power - driving sluggishly - and the light alternates between being on steadily and flashing. The manual says when it flashes to seek immediate assistance.

My big question is what is immediate assistance? My appointment isn't for a week and I need to get around; can I safely drive the vehicle or should I ask them to get me in earlier? And any thoughts on what could be causing the knocking?

If the SEL light is blinking this indicates a serious malfunction and you should not drive the vehicle further than neccesary. Is it still in warrenty ? Are you taking it to a Dealer or Indy ?

If you still can't get an answer, ask them to have a Tech drive the vehicle home. Believe me, Tech's don't like breaking down after working on cars all day long.

Thanks, while I wasn't looking forward to your answer, I was expecting it. It is under warranty and I've only taken it to the dealer. I'll take you advice. Thanks for your reply.
