Hey guys and gals. My power steering gearbox is leaking from the Piston/Rack adjuster screw located on the Passenger side of my LHD 2003 Discovery II. It''s the screw that is about an inch in diameter that looks like a giant screw head. I cannot find any information on what that screw actually adjusts (not in Rave manual) or if it can/cannot be completely removed for servicing. I have found a diagram at british pacific that shows the exploded gearbox and there DOES appear to be a seal/washer in there but it is the ONE that is not available for purchase. Does anybody know what this screw adjusts (not even my local rover specialist can tell me) and whether or not it can be removed. I have been considering draining the system and seeing if I can unscrew it enough to silicone the threads and screw it back in to the same place to see if that works - maybe teflon tape? I tried lucas'' p/s stop leak already and it ain''t workin at all! I need an expert here! Any help is appreciated in my effort to try to avoid purchasing my 2ND!! P/S Gearbox in two years, thanks!

Did you wrench on the little hex holding that screw in? That will set it in a bind and cause it to leak. You can take it out and find an o-ring to go back in, but I just took mine out a little and wrapped in teflon tape. Take care to not tighten the set screw (little hex) too tight, or it will leak again. If you take out the big one all of the way, you will have to re-fill and bleed the system.
