I am a future LR3 owner. I have a question about driving my 1994 Pathfinder and my future LR3.

I came across this scenario today. Two vehilces were stopped on the road because the one in front was waiting to make a left hand turn. On the right, the road fell off the pavement (i.e. the pavement ended, and there was about a foot drop onto the dirt). If I drive either vehicle (Pathfinder or LR3) with both passenger side wheels on the dirt with the driver side wheels on the pavement, is there risk of any damage to the vehicle? Does the vehicle need to be in 4WD?

I know the obvious answer is "It is no problem", but I would rather ask first than do it and break an axle and be out $1k.

Worst case senario, is it is a larger drop than it looks, and you smack your differential or axle on the pavement or a rock. The diff is that round thing in the middle of the axle. Also called the pumpkin. Be sure to get your angles right when coming on and off the road. If you are at all unsure about your clearance, have someone spot for you.
