Hello, everyone.
I just bought a Freelander 2002 with 50k miles. There is a strange problem. Each time when I am driving, my feet will feel very hot . I once thought it was because the engine is too hot. But the temperature gauge is in the middle and the coolant level is at the MIN level. I found that the heat is from a big tube just right under the power wheel and even from the steel rods connecting brake pedal. I am really donot know what is going on with the engine. Can anybody help me?

whats a power wheel? dont know what tube youre talking about... but it sounds like youre missing a heat shield behind the engine, maybe just bent

Thank your reply. Actually I mean steering column. Sorry for my wrong words.
Today I visit the dealer and was told that there should be wrong with some sensor in heating system. But they do not know which one should be changed. And their suggestion is waiting until the sensor compeletly break down then they will change it.
Freelander is really a troublemaker

Don''t let one bad experience make you think the Freelander is a troublemaker. Might just be something simple. But I wouldn''t wait till the sensor completely breaks down to have the problem corrected. Sounds like the dealer is just looking to make a ton of money in a bigger repair than if you were to get it done now. Don''t take their advice as golden. Be firm and demand that they check the problem. If possible, insist on seeing what they find as the cause of the excessive heat. Don''t take their word on everything without seeing proof with your own eyes.

Hi,Cyberoptiq,your suggestion sounds good and reasonable. It is true that unhappiness may arise from some simple things.
I will report the latest development. After visiting the dealer, I continue to drive and it looks like that there is no such problems any longer for it seems to disappears in a minute.What left me is a bad habit: to touch the tube to feel it is hot or not when waiting the traffic light.

Please get in touch with Mr. Gutman. We have a class action lawsuit against Landrover. I have a 2003 Freelander, I''ve replaced the engine, the fuel pump, the brakes on passenger side at least 10 times. My car sat at the LR dealership in american fork Utah for 10 months. My car was still under the original factory warranty. I was given a rental car for 10 months. After all was said & done I got stuck with a rebuilt engine at the price of $7000, a rental car bill $6000, paid for a car that I did not use for 10 months & insurance on that car. Finally, after finding others that had the same problems with thier freelander and a young lady on you tube who had wanted to file a class action law suit. Land Rover North America would never return my phone calls, and blamed me for being negligent in the care of my car & thats why I had the problems. I had paperwork, showing that I had done the recommended oil changes etc. I recieved a phone call from Michael at LRNA customer relations, last week & this week, trying to reimburse me for the engine. I forwarded the phone call to Mr. Gutman in hopes that we will soon have these unsafe vehicles off of the road & no one will ever purchase one of these money pits AGAIN!!!
