WOW! That truck is ROUGH! The spare is on the front, so the tire that is on the back door is either missing or flat or no good.
The paint is very rough, look at the roof, looks like LOTS of carwashes.
The leather is in bad shape, really bad shape. The dash is peeling up at the windshield.
They were trying to fix something, that is why the console is torn apart, it might be a ghost that is going to come back and haunt you. Looks like they gave up.
I am betting that this truck was rode hard and put away wet, more than once. I am also betting that the engine is sludged up and that the fluids have never been changed.
All of that being said, for $1500 it might be a good project truck. Keep your Jeep until you get this truck up to par.
I am also betting that the CD changer doesnt work. Or the AMP to the stereo.

Dont go a penny over $1500. And keep the Jeep until it is road ready.

Thanks for the input.  the fluids looked ok.  and there is an oil change sticker that said it''s due for an oil change in about 2000 miles.  and it was clean.  so at least it was changed before they brought it in.  the transmission fluid looked pink.  but not really pink.  so i will be changing it soon if i get it along with all the other fluids!  i think i''ll offer a grand.  but most likely pay 1500 in the end.  i am going to take it to a shop to get checked out, but i don''t really know what to look for or how to test it.  what should i have the mechanic do?  and anyone know a good shop in Tulsa?  I can''t imagine taking it to the dealership, i don''t want to spend much.  if i knew what to look for i would just do it myself..

Have them check the compression, coolant leaks, u-joints, brakes, shocks and spings. Body mounts, things like that.
Tell the salesman that you need new tires for it so that will need to be considered. Do like you said, low ball them. Wave the cash in front of their faces. They will drool.

It looks like they could not get the trans out of park and got mad.

It looks like all the parts are there,,the bumper end is about $40
you can order a new cover for the seat OEM but that will cost about $450.
The head liner can be redone I don''t know about $.
If it runs good you can count on spending about $2K to $2.5K to have it
up to par (with out paint).

Holly crap, this thing looks like it should be in a salvage yard. Your XJ is in much better condition than that!!! $1500 plus probably another $1500 to fix what is most likely tons of things. This adds up to $3000 !!!   Save a little more cash and you could get a 99 D2 in 10 times better condition than that, or a D1 which ever you prefer.
