My 98 disco has some serpbelt issues.  It was worn and squeaking and I replaced it. After I change it I noticed it s walking back and forth on the tensioner pulley.  The tach works intermittently and if I turn A/C it it runs true and noise is gone and tach is ok?  Any help would be appreciated.  I am guessing bad tensioner?  Thanks, in advance

If the belt is "walking" on the pullies then I would say bad tensioner. But I would double check the routing first though.

Could be the bearings in the a/c clutch. See if you feel any play in it, It should be tight. Also look at the tensioners like spike said.

Tensioner and I would replace both the idler pulleys at the same time. Pretty common to see them all fail at nearly the same time.

My disco only has 74k and I routed belt the same as I removed it.  I think  tensioner and idlers are ok.  There is no play and no separation on tensioner.   I see from link that belt is routed incorectly.  I will switch to proper routing and see what hapens.  Thanks for the info.
