i''ve been reading that Snorkels (for Discovery) are pointless and actually somewhat determinental to performance.

is this true?  if not, which is the best brand?

i feel as though the exhaust would have tobe snorkeled as well to be able to wade

I wouldn''t know about the performance side of things for the V8''s... didn''t make any difference fitting one to my Defender Tdi though.

What it will do is give you a significant performance advantage if you go deep wading ;)  If you drive through dusty terrain at all it''ll help there too and you can fit a supplemental air filter in the snorkel top to help too.

Both Mantec and Safari have a good reputation over here.

I have a Mantec its steel and goes under most of the fender and was
the stock on the Camel Discos.

Now on performance, I could tell No difference and I''m a Gear Head.

I just changed my air filter out after 20,000 miles aand two years and it still
looked ok, and I go out in a lot of dust.

Now if get the Safari snorkel the head can be turned forward to force feed the motor.

The snorkels will have people asking what it is and how deep of water you can go in.
I have more fun with people when they ask how deep of water I can go in" just up to the wipers "
and the whats that and I tell them and the other person says see I told you!!

Did you get your approval for your snorkel yet?
You know it can''t go on a stock LR.
