I just had a nail removed from my back tire and the mechanic plugged it. He told me I would have to buy a new tire because the plug wouldn't hold. The nail wasn't in the side wall of the tire or anything it was in the middle. Should I put the full size spare on and use the plugged tire as the spare? Will the plugged tire hold up? Any help on this issue would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'd take it in and get it pached and use it as a spare, The plug could wear from the road constantly wearing on it.
