Built by Land Rover for up to five passengers, the Range Rover Sport is a high performance sports utility vehicle that has been available since the summer of 2005. The Range Rover Sport shares its platform with the Land Rover Discovery, also known as the LR3. Land Rover refers to the Range Rover Sport as a sports tourer.
The most luxurious Range Rover Sport is equipped with a supercharged 4.2 liter AJ-V8 engine. This engine makes the vehicle the second most powerful vehicle in Land Rover's history, falling second only to the Range Rover SE supercharged variety. There is another engine option, which is a 4.4-liter engine that still has plenty of power. Both models of the Range Rover sport offer a six speed automatic transmission with a fuel capacity of 88 liters. Officials say that this sport utility vehicle can ford through 70 cm of water.
The Range Rover Sport was the victim of a lot of bad press, as many people believed that the vehicle would contribute to greenhouse gas emissions and global warming due to its combustion of hydrocarbons. The Range Rover Sport finally made its appearance in late 2004 but was renamed the Range Stormer. The Range Stormer was a very low slung, three-door concept car in a very bright orange color. People expected the vehicle to have a more radical, outside of the box design, so many were disappointed with the fairly inside the box design consisting of straight lines and a very clean look. Despite the disappointment of some, the Range Rover Sport, also known as the Range Stormer is selling well, so well in fact, that Land Rover may eventually have to do away with the original Range Rover as the Sport version tends to steal away the original Range Rover buyers.
